For some reason Boston Bruins head coach Art Ross has had it up to HERE with defenseman Bobby Rowe. After the Bruins defense allowed 16 goals in two games someone had to pay and it was Rowe who was given his unconditional release. He won a Stanley Cup with Seattle eight years ago but time caught up with him. Bye bye Bobby.
Happier times for RoweAs for the game, looks like Bobby Rowe was the least of their problems. Once again the Bruins got lit up by an opposing team's offense although there was no hat trick this time. The Montreal Maroons feasted on the Bruins as Dunc Munro and Sam Rothschild scored two goals apiece as the Maroons took a 6-0 lead in the third period including an embarrassing shorthanded goal in the second period. Stan Jackson made his Bruins debut but didn't crack the scoresheet. The Bruins did get goals from Billy Stuart and Fern Headley but it wasn't enough as they lost their fifth straight game 6-2 to the Maroons at the Montreal Forum.
Damn the ForumThe Maroons poured it on in the first period as Dunc Munro scored 3 minutes into the game with an assist to Sam Rothschild then Louis Berlinguette scored 10 minutes into the game with the assist to Punch Broadbent. That was it for the first period with the Maroons up 2-0.
Emory Sparrow got called for a penalty in the second period but the Maroons failed to score on the powerplay. Still, Broadbent scored 11 minutes in to essentially put the game away. The Maroons added insult to injury when Francis Cain got sent off for a penalty and Munro scored a shothanded goal to increase the lead. That was it for the second period with the Maroons leading 4-0.
The third period was more of the same with penalties to Berlinguette and Stuart, but back to back goals by Rothschild added to Boston's misery. The Bruins rallied at the end with Stuart scoring with 8 minutes left and Headley scoring his first goal as a Bruin but the Maroons won the game 6-2.
Reaction:
This season is a mess and they're only six games into it. Billy Stuart looks to have been an improvement but coach Art Ross may have to overhaul the entire team if they're giving up 6 goals a game. Hec Fowler is taking a beating and the rest of the D is like swiss cheese. Ross has a lot of work to do to fix this team but there may not be any short term solutions. Losing five straight games in a 30 game season is a backbreaker. Five days from now the Bruins travel home to face the Toronto St. Patrick's who started this losing streak. Hopefully the Bruins can snap the streak with a big win.
