Senators Crush Bruins (12/15/24)

Before the game the Boston Bruins made a roster move. Yesterday Charles Adams sent a back of cash to the Toronto St. Patrick's for defenseman Billy "Red" Stuart. After that awful display in Hamilton, coach Art Ross most likely wants better defense.
                                                               Welcome to the snake pit

Bobby Rowe returned to the lineup replacing Alf Skinner. Stuart made his debut replacing Lloyd Cook. As for the game, Coach Ross is going to need to buy a whole new defense after the Bruins got embarrassed on their home ice by the Ottawa Senators. Not only did yet another player get a hat trick, but Cy Denneny scored four goals in one game. Cy actually got a hat trick in the first period as Hec Fowler was left out to dry. The Senators scored SIX goals in the first period, three by Denneny to end the game early. King Clancy, Georges Boucher and Ed Gorman also scored as the Bruins got booed out of the building. Denneny and Clancy also scored in the second period but somehow Jimmy Herbert found the back of the net for the Bruins. In the third period Boucher and Hooley Smith scored for Ottawa but Billy Stuart scored for Boston to wrap up the scoring. It all added up to a 10-2 victory by Ottawa over the Bruins at Boston Arena.
"These guys are bums" - Clancy

Denneny opened the scoring 4:24 into the first period and then added another less than two minutes later. One minute later King Clancy scored and Denneny earned the hat trick just 7:24 into the first period, unreal. Georges Boucher scored with 5:23 remaining and Ed Gorman scored with 2:38 left to send the fans home early. After just the first period it was 6-0 Ottawa.
A hat trick in the first period

Denneny added his fourth of the game just 2:39 into the second period but the Bruins got on the board when George Redding found Jimmy Herbert to break up the shutout halfway through the period. King Clancy scored with 8:17 left in the period to continue the massacre. There were only 3 penalties called in the game and one of them was Billy Stuart of the Bruins. Boucher and Gorman got the other two with the score 8-1 going into the third.
                                                                   "I scored?" - Herbert

The third period was more like the second period with the Senators pouring it on. King Clancy set up Boucher for his second goal of the game with 8 minutes left in the game. 67 seconds later Hooley Smith put one past Fowler to hang a ten spot on the Bruins. Somehow Billy Stuart found the back of the net with 2:34 left to wrap up the scoring. The Senators had won it 10-2.
"This is horrible" - Art Ross

Reaction:

What more needs to be said? The defense was awful and Senators almost scored more goals in one game than the Bruins have on the entire season so far. Through five games its obvious Ross needs a brand new defense because this one isn't working. Its one thing for a first year expansion team to lose games, its another to get your brains beat in by the Hamilton Tigers & Ottawa Senators. Carson Cooper and Smokey Harris can't bail you out every game when you're giving up this many goals a game. I doubt there's much Charles Adams and Art Ross can do this season to fix anything. Hec Fowler can only do so much with a defense this bad. Two nights from now the Bruins travel to Montreal to play the Maroons in a rematch of Opening Night. I have a feeling this game is going to be very different.
